Your mind is so powerful. And sometimes we can feed it with misinformation... especially when it comes to ourselves and our own body image.
You've likely heard that saying... "whether you think you can or you think you can't... you're right." What you think, becomes true.
What you focus on, you create more of... good, bad, positive or negative. In today's day and age of social media, it can be easier than ever to have feelings of inadequacy. It can be easier than ever to compare our bodies and our lives to others. It can be easier than ever to believe what society deems to be "perfect."
Try to remember though... people don't typically share the bad stuff. They share the "highlight reels" and the stuff they want you to see or know.
Photos posted are usually the "good" ones... not necessarily the "real" ones. Filters can cover lines & wrinkles. Apps can create the perfect background. Makeup can cover imperfections. The right angle... the right light... and 55 shots later... the "perfect" photo.
What defines us though isn't what we readily think when we look in the mirror or compare ourselves to others. We are so much more than that!
While exercise does cause you to feel better, a certain number on the scale isn't what ultimately defines us. And if we really pay attention, we'll realize how much our minds change during our journey to good health. That as our bodies grow stronger, our minds do too.
Next time you look in the mirror, whether it's at home or at Bloom during a class... try to remember these words of wisdom. And BELIEVE it to be true...
You are not your age
Nor the size of the clothes you wear
You are not a weight
Or the color of your hair
You are not your name
Or the dimples in your cheeks
You are all the books you read
All the words you speak
You are your croaky morning voice
And the smiles you try to hide
You're the sweetness in your laughter
And every tear you've cried
You're the songs you sing so loudly
When you know you're all alone
You're the places you've been to
And the one that you call home
You're the things you believe in
And the people that you love
You're the photos in your bedroom
And the future you dream of
You're made of so much beauty
But it seems that you forgot
When you decided that you were defined
By all the things you're not
Keep blooming, Bloomsquad! You are MORE!
