Wearing O' The Green

Top o' the morning to you and it's back to reality after a weekend of celebrating and pretending we're all of Irish heritage, wearing green from head to toe. Can't wait until May 5 when we pretend we're all Mexican and celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

In all seriousness though, let's talk about GREEN... but how about in the form of FOOD instead of clothing? How about if we all make more of an effort to wear green on the INSIDE every day, by adding more veggies into our diets? How about if we start today with a new habit that will nourish a healthier and happier body?

Our bodies crave healthy foods for energy & sustainability. It's the fuel we need to function at our best.

Poor nutrition can cause many health problems like diabetes, heart disease and cancer just to name a few. But why wait until a diagnosis to get serious about our health? Let's have gratitude and care for this ONE & ONLY body that we've been given.

If you're reading along with our Book Club, the 50 Ways to Yay author has a chapter titled "Maintenance Required" referring to our body & health. And how true is that? Our bodies DO require daily maintenance. But why is it that we can sometimes take better care of our cars or houses, rather than the physical home in which we reside?

It's so easy to take our health for granted and feel a sense of immortality. Sometimes it takes losing it though, to realize that true wealth in life IS our good HEALTH.

Here's some of the author's very basic suggestions for taking your health up a notch:

Eat tons of healthy, chemical-free fruits & vegetables

Drink plenty of water throughout the day

Move your body daily

Reduce stress with meditation

Ensure you are getting the rest your body needs

Do your best to avoid processed foods & sugary drinks

Be aware of the chemicals in your food & beauty products that your body is soaking up

Limit your alcohol intake

All of those things listed are easy to implement, and you're likely already doing many of them! But we can all stand to make some changes. Just a little more effort, can lead to your body feeling and functioning better. And ultimately that's the goal... to FEEL good in your own body.

Back in January we shared a recipe on our blog using spiralized zucchini noodles in place of pasta. If you missed that post you can find it here. It's a great way to sneak some extra greens into your diet, along with the added fresh spinach!

MINDBODY recently shared a few recipes to add more greens into your diet too. Check them out here!

What are some of YOUR favorite ways to sneak extra greens into your diet? We'd love for you to share your ideas in the comments!
